RF skin tightening in Tokyo: Thermage FLX, XERF, Volnewmer, Oligio and others

Last reviewed 7 Oct 2026. All prices are in Japanese yen and include tax unless stated otherwise.
Overview

Radiofrequency (RF) tightening heats the skin and the layer just beneath it to firm sagging skin without surgery. In Tokyo, clinic websites list full-face Thermage FLX at about ¥260,000 to ¥400,000, while newer monopolar RF devices such as XERF, Volnewmer and Oligio are listed at about ¥69,000 to ¥290,000 for the full face. Clinics whose doctors offer consultations in English include Omotesando Rejuva Medical Clinic (XERF, ¥165,000 for the full face and under-chin area) and Art Lounge Clinic (Hydro Phase RF from ¥88,000, and M-Tight RF with EMS). Most Thermage providers publish in Japanese only; Matsurika Clinic and BIANCA Clinic publish RF prices in English.

01

How RF differs from HIFU

Both are non-surgical ways to tighten skin with heat. HIFU (focused ultrasound) delivers energy in small points at fixed depths. Monopolar RF (radiofrequency) passes an electrical current through a wider volume of skin and the fat layer beneath it, heating it more evenly. Clinics describe RF as the option for skin texture and firmness and HIFU as the option for lifting deeper tissue. Many Tokyo clinics combine the two: Art Lounge Clinic's New Doublo has a handpiece that delivers RF together with HIFU, Omotesando Rejuva Medical Clinic offers XERF with HIFU, Clinic K offers XERF together with Ultraformer, BIANCA Clinic offers Volnewmer together with HIFU, and Ginza Takasu Clinic and Matsurika Clinic discount Thermage FLX when it follows Ultherapy.

RF has little or no downtime. Clinics describe warmth or a hot, prickling sensation during treatment and mild redness afterward. Recommended intervals vary by device: Omotesando Rejuva Medical Clinic suggests XERF every three to six months, Clinic K every two to six months, and Tokyo Skin & Plastic Surgery Clinic every three to six months for Oligio.

The devices you will see on Tokyo menus

Thermage FLX (サーマクールFLX) is the long-established monopolar RF device from Solta Medical. Several Tokyo clinics note that it is not approved under Japan's Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Act and is imported by the clinic; Matsurika Clinic and Ginza Takasu Clinic state this on their pages. Shirono Clinic states that treatment is performed by Solta-certified doctors. Prices are usually quoted per 300 or 600 shots (clinics write カウント or ショット).

XERF (ザーフ) is a newer monopolar device that uses two frequencies (6.78 MHz and 2 MHz), allowing the clinic to choose shallow, middle or deep heating. Omotesando Rejuva Medical Clinic treats the full face and under-chin area for ¥165,000, with the neck available as a ¥55,000 add-on; its director spoke on XERF at the Japanese Society of Aesthetic Dermatology's annual meeting in August 2026. Clinic K (Ginza) prices 600 shots at ¥198,000 when performed by a nurse or ¥286,000 by a doctor, and Miyamasuzaka Clinic (Shibuya) lists 600 shots at ¥129,000. Clinic K carries the same unapproved-device notice as the Thermage clinics.

Volnewmer and Oligio are Korean monopolar RF devices positioned as lower-cost alternatives to Thermage. BIANCA Clinic lists Volnewmer at ¥104,000 for the full face and says a full-face treatment generally involves 300 to 400 shots; Tokyo Skin & Plastic Surgery Clinic (Ginza) lists Oligio at ¥132,000 by a nurse or ¥143,000 by a doctor, including HIFU under the chin. Hydro Phase, used at Art Lounge Clinic, is a monopolar RF treatment priced at ¥88,000 for a first visit and ¥132,000 thereafter, with a ¥100,000 surcharge for a fully customized treatment by the doctor. Art Lounge also lists M-Tight, which combines RF with EMS muscle stimulation, from ¥100,000 for two areas. Azabu Skin Clinic lists Exilis Ultra 360, a combined RF and ultrasound device sold in five-session courses.

03

How prices are quoted

Thermage FLX is at the expensive end: among the clinics in this guide, 300 shots for the full face runs from ¥260,000 (Tokyo Biyo Hifuka Clinic, certified doctor) to ¥352,000 (Shirono Clinic), and 600 shots from ¥350,000 to ¥418,000. Azabu Skin Clinic prices Thermage by passes rather than shots, from ¥151,800 for four passes, and adds a ¥40,000 doctor's fee; its English prices are shown before tax, which is unusual in Tokyo.

The newer monopolar devices fall between ¥69,000 and ¥290,000 for the full face, depending on the number of shots and on whether a doctor or a nurse performs the treatment. Nurse-performed and doctor-performed prices for the same device can differ by ¥50,000 to ¥90,000 (Matsurika Thermage: ¥272,800 with a nurse vs. ¥327,800 with a doctor for 300 shots; Clinic K XERF: ¥198,000 vs. ¥286,000 for 600 shots). Ginza Takasu Clinic charges less for a repeat session within six to twelve months. Unless the page says otherwise, Japanese clinic prices include 10% tax; BIANCA's English RF page does not say whether tax is included.

  • Device name and generation (Thermage FLX, XERF, Volnewmer, Oligio, Hydro Phase).
  • The shots or passes included for the area you want, and the cost of adding more.
  • Who performs the treatment: a nurse, a doctor or a certified doctor. Several clinics price these separately.
  • Approval status: several clinics state that the device is not approved in Japan and is imported by the clinic.
  • Tax: most prices include it; Azabu Skin Clinic's English list does not.
  • English: who at the clinic speaks it, and whether an English consultation must be booked in advance.

Where the consultation can be held in English

Two clinics in this guide have doctors who offer consultations in English: Omotesando Rejuva Medical Clinic (XERF; three doctors offer consultations in English) and Art Lounge Clinic (Hydro Phase and M-Tight; the director offers consultations in English by appointment). Matsurika Clinic says its staff provide English-language support whenever possible and publishes Thermage FLX prices in English; BIANCA Clinic says interpretation and counseling are free of charge and publishes Volnewmer prices in English; and Ginza Takasu Clinic says it has English and Chinese interpreters. Azabu Skin Clinic has English pages but makes no statement about English-speaking staff. Clinic K, Miyamasuzaka Clinic, Shirono Clinic and Tokyo Biyo Hifuka Clinic publish in Japanese only.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Thermage cost in Tokyo?

Clinic websites list full-face Thermage FLX at about ¥260,000 (300 shots by a certified doctor at Tokyo Biyo Hifuka Clinic) to ¥398,000 (600 shots by a doctor at Matsurika Clinic), tax included. Full face plus neck at 600 shots is ¥418,000 at Shirono Clinic. Azabu Skin Clinic prices by passes, from ¥151,800 before tax plus a ¥40,000 doctor's fee.

What is XERF, and where can I get it in Tokyo?

XERF is a monopolar RF tightening device that uses two frequencies so the clinic can choose how deeply to heat the tissue. In Tokyo, Omotesando Rejuva Medical Clinic treats the full face and under-chin area for ¥165,000 (neck ¥55,000 extra) and has three doctors who offer consultations in English. Clinic K in Ginza and Miyamasuzaka Clinic in Shibuya also list XERF, in Japanese only.

Is RF tightening cheaper than HIFU?

It depends on the device. Thermage FLX (¥260,000 to ¥418,000 for the face) costs more than most HIFU sessions (¥59,000 to ¥200,000). Newer RF devices such as XERF, Volnewmer, Oligio and Hydro Phase are listed at ¥69,000 to ¥290,000, in the same range as HIFU.

Which RF clinics in Tokyo can I visit in English?

Omotesando Rejuva Medical Clinic (XERF) has three doctors who offer consultations in English. At Art Lounge Clinic (Hydro Phase, M-Tight), the director offers consultations in English by appointment. Matsurika Clinic (Thermage FLX) and BIANCA Clinic (Volnewmer) publish prices in English and state that English support or free interpretation is available. Ginza Takasu Clinic says it has English and Chinese interpreters.

Is Thermage approved in Japan?

Several Tokyo clinics, including Matsurika Clinic, Ginza Takasu Clinic and Tokyo Biyo Hifuka Clinic, state on their pages that the device is not approved under Japan's Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Act and is imported by the clinic, while noting its US FDA clearance. Clinic K carries the same notice for XERF. Ask the clinic what approval status applies to the device it uses.

How often is RF tightening repeated?

Clinics give intervals of two to six months: Omotesando Rejuva Medical Clinic suggests XERF every three to six months, Clinic K every two to six months, and Tokyo Skin & Plastic Surgery Clinic every three to six months for Oligio. Ginza Takasu Clinic charges less for a second Thermage FLX session within six to twelve months than for the first.
